Designing for the Afternoon.

The client came to Orenda with a clear vision: a workspace that felt deliberate from the first moment of entry. Not a statement, but a place of quiet focus where the architecture supports rather than competes. The existing shell, while structurally sound, lacked a coherent flow and relied too heavily on borrowed light from adjacent corridors.

Positioned on the northern face of the Navigli district, the studio receives a cool, even light throughout the day. Rather than introducing warmer sources artificially, we tuned the material palette to amplify this consistent northern glow. We reconfigured the mezzanine level and introduced a central atrium that draws diffused light down into the working floors below.

The material palette was deliberately restrained to preserve a sense of visual clarity. We selected pale Pietra Serena stone to reflect the ambient light softly, paired with bleached European ash that holds a matte, powdery finish under overcast skies. These materials were treated as structural elements rather than finishes, used to define volumes and thresholds throughout the space.

Every shelving unit, workspace partition, and ambient lighting track was developed in-house by our Milan atelier. This level of integration meant each component reinforced the spatial logic rather than interrupting it with off-the-shelf solutions.

The result is a studio that performs exceptionally well as a working environment. It is a space calibrated to the slow rhythm of creative practice—one that feels as considered and precise as the work produced within it.

"They gave us a studio that disappears when we work. The space simply holds us without asking for attention."
